Cederberg Traverse
CEDERBERG TRAVERSE
Throw a stone from Cape Town and we’re in the panoramic Cederberg mountains. Known for its seclusion, rare wildlife and mythical passes, these ranges set the scene for the adventure of a lifetime. Dirt roads are linked by jeep-tracks which allow us to explore to our heart’s content and the passes keep things…Interesting. After the challenges of the mountains, slide into the crystal clear streams for an invigorating cool-off. If you can be persuaded to leave your bike, you’ll find hiking, fishing and swimming activities abound, as well as refreshing local wine and beer tasting.
CEDERBERG TRAVERSE ITINERARY
An exploration of the spectacular mountains of the Western Cape.
OUR JOURNEY BEGINS (TRAVEL DAY)
DAY ONE
Your representative will collect you at Cape Town International Airport and transfer you by road to the town of Citrusdal and a little further through to our starting point in the Cederberg. Here we will have a short briefing before our afternoon ride deeper in the mountains and our accommodation for the first two nights. Our cottages are tucked beneath the cliffs and we’ll enjoy our first sunset as the rocks turn red and we settle in next to the Matjiesrivier.
CEDERBERG/KROMRIVIER CIRCULAR ROUTE
DAY TWO
After breakfast we head out towards the Kromrivier valley, first on a circular single track loop and then down the dirt track towards the Kromrivier itself where we’ll enjoy a drink stop. From here we continue on along the Kromrivier before heading up the pass towards Stadsal Caves where we will stop to view the bushman paintings. From the caves, it is a short trip back to our accommodation.
After lunch, we have the afternoon to ourselves where we can choose from a number of activities including a short hike, fishing along the river, or wine and beer tasting from one of the local wine farms.
CEDERBERG TO MOUNT CEDER
DAY THREE
We leave our central accommodation and head along the Meitjiesrivier in a southerly direction along dirt tracks. We have a couple of passes to cover on today's ride but will enjoy a well deserved stop at the top of one of them. After that it’s a straight journey to our final night on a working olive farm tucked away in a valley.
The afternoon is again spent hiking, fishing or relaxing along the river, this time the Grootrivier. Dinner tonight is served at the farmhouse and will be delicious local specialities.
RETURN HOME
DAY FOUR
Our final day starts with a leisurely breakfast at Mount Ceder, or for those still keen on more riding, a short morning ride. We are then collected for our journey back to Cape Town International Airport.
